What to pack for winter at Watergate Bay

A coastal holiday in winter is something that excites us and Watergate Bay is particularly beautiful during this time of year. The beach is quiet, the surf is powerful and the skies are ever changing. Winter however, can be a tricky season to pack for so we have covered the essentials in our packing guide to winter at Watergate Bay. Many of our suggestions have been made by you.

Woolly pullies

This is everything from hats to scarfs, gloves to jumpers, tights to socks. Bring your warmest clothes and layer up as Cornwall is known to get a little chilly in the winter months because of its exposure to the ocean on three sides.

Waterproof jacket

Along with the cold comes the rain, but hopefully not too much. It’s an unfortunate necessity, the weather in Cornwall is known to change at a moment’s notice, but that’s all part of the charm.

Wellies

Thus completing the three essential ‘W’s of winter packing – Woolley pullies, waterproof’s and wellies. Splash and play in the shallows of the Atlantic but keep your toes warm.

Camera

If you’re lucky a blanket of snow will turn our beach from gold to white this winter and we’re sure you’ll want to capture the beach as the frost sets in and the icicles form.

A big appetite

We have three restaurants at Watergate Bay Hotel plus Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen Cornwall opposite us. It’s fair to say you won’t go hungry whilst staying with us so a big appetite is a must! Indulge in the local Cornish produce and have an extra dollop of clotted cream on your scones!

A sense of adventure

Take the bracing waters head on, duck and dive under the waves and learn to surf. At Exetreme Academy we have full winter kit available during our lessons or for hire, so there’s no excuse. Get in the water!

A friendly face

Be it your husband, wife, children, friends or dog, bring someone to share the beach with, to chat over coffee with and to hold the camera whilst you build a sandcastle and watch the winter sunset.
