We recently caught up with Carly, here’s what she had to say.

How long have you worked at Watergate Bay Hotel?
I first started at Watergate Bay a year and a half ago. My initial position was reception but I was promoted to GRM.

What were you doing before you joined us at the hotel?
Before I joined the team at Watergate I worked at Porth Veor Manor as a restaurant supervisor. I have also completed a degree in Contemporary Lens Media from Lincoln University. The degree focused on the use of cameras in photography and film, but I was particularly interested in the method of photo manipulation. I love working with Photoshop and changing the perspectives of a photograph.

What’s a normal day like for you?
Each day is completely different. I have my day-to-day tasks that remain the same such as walking around the whole hotel and making sure everything and everyone is ok, dealing with any maintenance requests, staff issues and department needs. But I also have a lot of ad-hoc duties that are different each day.

What do some of your ad-hoc tasks include?
I am the first port of call for reception. If they have a query they’re not sure how best to handle they’ll pass it over to me. This can be anything from putting champagne or flowers into a room to dealing with complaints or maintenance requests.

My favourite request was when a gentlemen asked me for a rake to write ‘Will you marry me?’ in the sand…she said yes!

Can you sum up your job in three words?
Interesting
Varied
Challenging

Everyone needs some downtime, when you’re not at work where can you be found?
I have a Border Collie so a lot of my spare time is spent walking her and spending time on the beaches nearby. I also spend a fair bit of time honing my photo manipulation skills and editing old photos.
