In 2011, the fifth Polo on the Beach event was one of the most exciting yet despite the inclement weather with the UK’s top players battling it out on the pitch. New team sponsors First Great Western lead by James Harper were victorious against the Joules team. Over 2500 spectators braved the wind to watch the closely contested match and as the game drew to a close, they were rewarded with a spectacular sunset.
At the trophy presentation, Rebecca Coombes of Smith and Williamson, who sponsored the Best Playing Pony award presented a special horse blanket to Panina the winning pony. Trophy sponsor Chris Jones from HSBC awarded the Most Valuable Player trophy to James Harper along with a kit bag from Tony Ramirez of Images of Polo. The evening was topped off with the presentation by Romain Herbelot of Moet Hennessey to the winning First Great Western team which was sponsored by Cloudy Bay Wines.
The evening continued at the house party at The Hotel where guests mingled with the players and enjoyed plenty of Veuve Clicquot champagne along with some great food, plus music provided by two local bands.
A big thank you to everyone who was involved in the organisation of the event as well as the sponsors, without whom the event would not be possible and the brave spectators.
