Polo on the Beach
On Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th May the sun shone and the surfers made way for polo ponies as more than 8,000 spectators made their way to Watergate Bay for the seventh year of Veuve Clicquot Polo on the Beach. For the first time the event took place over a weekend and was free to attend.
Record crowds lined the pitch this year on Sunday 19th May to watch team Joules narrowly clinch the Watergate Bay Trophy for a second year, from team First Great Western with a score of 13-12. It was a thrilling, high goal match where spectators were treated to some spectacular polo from England internationals.
As well as top class polo matches and “how-to-play” demonstrations there was plenty of horse entertainment with our kitesurfer vs polo pony challenge and The Devil’s Horsemen display team, live music, a Veuve Clicquot Champagne deck and The Beach Hut barbecue & bar, all right on the sand.
Check out the full line-up for Saturday and Sunday in the weekend Event Guide.
Thank you to everyone who attended this year’s Polo On The Beach and to all those who made it a really awesome weekend. We look forward to seeing you next year!
