You’d be missing a trick if during your stay at Watergate Bay Hotel you didn’t visit Swim Club for a treatment, a dip in the pool or to curl up in front on the big windows reading your favourite book. Swim Club is a secluded area designed for both being active and kicking back and our Swim Club manager, Caroline, will help you do just that.
We recently caught up with Caroline, take a read.
How long have you worked at Watergate Bay Hotel?
I’ve been here a total of 7 years. Having moved here with my husband from Oxfordshire I started work in the former Brasserie as a waitress. From there I went onto work on reception. And then worked two days a week alongside the self-employed beauty therapist who worked from the hotel.
As a fully trained therapist this was where I felt at home, beauty therapy is my passion. Two years ago Swim Club was opened and I was made Swim Club Manager and I love it.
Were you involved in the development of Swim Club?
Yes, I worked closely with the development team to create the Swim Club we have today. It was a really interesting process and an amazing experience seeing it all come together.
As Swim Club manager what does your job entail?
My main role is to support the team, make sure things, operationally, run smoothly and ensure guests enjoy their time in Swim Club. On top of this I control and maintain stock levels of our Another Place product range, keep on top of admin, budgets and sort any ad-hoc issues that arise.
At any one time we could have hotel guests, day members or Another Place members in Swim Club so it can be a varied day of interaction. I also run a team of eight therapists and five cafe-bar staff.
What’s your favourite part of your job?
I really enjoy looking after people. Swim Club is a place to take relaxation to the next level, we aim to do as much as we can for our guest to help them feel comfortable. I also enjoy the times when I can do the treatments, as SC manager I don’t have a lot of free time to do treatments, so it’s great when I can.
We’re a little family in Swim Club, and our guests are an extension of that. It’s a real thrill when we have return guests who remember us and we build a personal relationship with them.
If you were going to have a treatment in Swim Club what would it be?
That’s easy, I’d book a freestyle full works, where you can pick and mix the entire treatment list. I’d start with a Body Scrub using the Another Place body scrub, a full works facial, and a deep tissue massage using Another Place massage oil.
Which is your favourite product from the Another Place collection?
The entire collection is lovely, I was involved in sampling them all and helping decide the final seven. I suppose my favourite from the collection would be the body wash, it’s so fresh and invigorating. In Swim Club we use the range wherever possible.
Can you sum up your job in three words?
When you’re not at work where could we find you?
In Spain! My family have an apartment there, so I’d be there making the most of the sunshine, sangria and tapas. When at home in Cornwall though I am a keen runner and cyclist and enjoy going to the other spas around the county.
