One of my favourite things about living in Cornwall is that sometimes you get to be a ‘tourist’ for the day without having to go very far.
Watergate Bay is one of my favourite beaches. I have spent plenty of days surfing the beach, going for walks along the cliff and dropping in at The Beach Hut for an Extreme hot chocolate. However the one thing I hadn’t ticked off my list was visiting Watergate Bay Hotel.
This year my friend and I decided to book a day membership pass for our birthdays. It seemed like the perfect treat and a great way to check out the hotel.
Day membership consists of full access to Swim Club (which includes the 25m infinity swimming pool and the amazing hot tub on the terrace), a treatment of your choice as well as lunch at The Beach Hut.
We started the day off in the hot tub, we were just so excited to be able to watch the waves and beach crowds at our favourite beach in such a luxurious and relaxing environment. We decided to make the most of the swimming pool. I had seen pictures of the pool before, however it wasn’t until I was there swimming that I fully appreciated how extraordinary it is. 25 meters is a great length for a good swim and to be able to see the end of the pool expanding out across the ocean as far as the horizon is incredible.
After the swim, we went for our hard-earned 60 minute full body massage. The staff at the hotel are so friendly and really make you feel at home. As far as massages go, I have to say that mine was one of the best I have had. As soon as I stepped into the treatment room I instantly felt relaxed. I couldn’t believe how fast the hour went and I left feeling amazing.
By this time we had worked up an appetite for lunch. We walked down to The Beach Hut. We were lucky enough to get seats on the deck, the sun had just come out so it was a perfect day. As we were having a ‘healthy’ birthday we decided to go for just two courses with a cheeky cocktail. We both had the grilled courgette houmous with flatbread to start which was incredible. For mains, we had the superfood salad and I had a grilled mackerel on top of mine.
After lunch we decided to headed back to the sun terrace to relax on the loungers for the rest of the afternoon (with another cheeky cocktail or two).
I have to say that the day membership at the Watergate Bay Hotel was probably one if the best ways I have spent my birthday. We were there for a total of 5 hours, however I could have easily have spent another 5 hours there relaxing. The staff, facilities and the food made the day extra special and I’m already trying to round up some more girl friends to book another visit.
