The North Coast of Cornwall is a haven for foodies with some of the best restaurants in the South West – many of which are included in the South West’s Trenchermans Guide. But when you’re among the best, why not join them and learn how to cook your favourite seafood dishes with help from the masters. We took a trip to Padstow Seafood School to discover how to cook some of Rick Stein’s own recipes.
Padstow Seafood School is Rick Stein’s cookery school, with a fantastic view over the Camel Estuary across to Rock. And it’s only six miles from Watergate Bay. We would always recommend a trip Padstow whilst staying at the Bay and this is your chance to try something new. With the school right on the harbour, you can guarantee the fish and shellfish you are cooking with is straight from the sea and as fresh as you can get. The best quality and it really does make a difference.
There’s a buzz around the food at the school, but it’s not all about seafood. They also demonstrate Far Eastern, Italian, Indian street food, Spanish tapas and some wonderful patisserie and bakery sessions. And, if that’s not enough, they are also introducing tasting evenings where you can enjoy a selection of dishes inspired by Rick Stein’s travels.
Our team at Watergate Bay were invited along to one of Padstow Seafood School’s one-dish evening workshops – and we weren’t disappointed. It gave us the opportunity to watch one of the cookery school’s chefs demonstrate how to cook one of Ricks favourite dishes and then develop our own skills and techniques whilst we recreated the dish.
We then got the chance to enjoy what we had created with a glass of wine overlooking the Camel Estuary. It was a great evening, the food was delicious, and something that would be fun to do with family and friends. It doesn’t matter about your cooking ability, they cater for everyone, and help is never far away.
