An iced coffee cannot be underestimated during the warm summer days on the coast. Here’s how we do ours at The Living Space.
Mazagran, a cold, sweetened coffee beverage that originated in Algeria, has been described as “the original iced coffee”. It was prepared with coffee syrup and cold water. Here’s our version, now being served in The Living Space, Watergate Bay.
2 shots of Origin coffee (or other good quality, strong coffee)
½ glass of Rodda’s cornish milk
15ml (1 tablespoon) vanilla, caramel or gomme syrup
A few ice cubes
Garnish: chocolate powder and some coffee beans
Fill a shaker with some ice cubes and the coffee shots, then milk and add any syrup of your preference, shake to combine.
Pour in a chilled glass half full of ice, a nice fluffy foam should appear on the top. Stir, take a small sip, and add a little more syrup if needed, top up with some more ice cubes and sprinkle a little chocolate powder, place three coffee beans on the top of it… voila! It is out-of-this-world creamy and wonderful.
You can recreate our recipe at home with a classic filter coffee. To avoid watered down iced coffee…freeze some extra coffee into cubes and add coffee cubes to your drink instead of regular!
And any leftover coffee can gets frozen in ice cube trays and goes into the freezer. Any time you will be craving this brewing you will only have to crush them to create a delicious frappe.
Chocolate or cream can be added to it for an even smoother treat or an healthier option is to replace the cow milk by some almond or hazelnut milk it will also give a nutty flavour to it. Try this cold-brewed method of iced coffee sometime soon. Be adventurous, tweak and experiment to find your own favourite combination!
