2013 was a great year for events at Watergate Bay but 2014 is set to be even bigger and better! With the return of both well-established events and new competitions the beach will be a hive of activity.
Burns Night – Saturday 25 January
Och aye the noo! We’re looking to Scotland and celebrating the life of Robert Burns, the bard of Auld Lang Syne. Burn’s night will see The Beach Hut setting fire to haggis and serving it with neeps, tatties, salmon, potato cakes and sour cream, all washed down with Scottish Cranachan and whiskey cocktails set around a bonfire on the beach. The more tartan the better!

It’s Summer Somewhere – Friday 7 February
‘Because it’s always summer somewhere’. That’s all we need to know to throw a ‘Summer Somewhere’ barbecue at The Beach Hut, infused with Caribbean flavours inspried by Chef Haydock’s time in Barbados. Get into the sunshine spirit with Tequila Sunrise and Pina Colada cocktails, jerk chicken and rice and peas!

Valentine’s Day, The Beach Hut – Friday 14 February
Alongside our normal menu there will also be a specials board of meals for two. From spatchcock chicken to rib of beef, this is food full of heart that you’ll love.
Fifteen Farmers’ Market – Saturday 15 March
9.30am – 3.30pm
Join local suppliers and growers celebrate the start of the growing year showcasing everything from fresh fish to local meat, from store cupboard chutneys to artisan cheese and bread, it is all here!
An evening with Harbour Brewing Company, The Beach Hut – Friday 21 March
Taste some ales and share some tales with the guys from The Harbour Brewing Company. Indulge in a five course taster menu of spiced coconut soup, cumin roast pork belly and pecan brownie paired with great ales.

Mothers’ Day, The Beach Hut – Sunday 30 March
Bring Mum, and the rest of the family, down to The Beach Hut and treat her to lunch. We’ll be running our normal menu alongside a selection of specials for special mums.
English National Surfing Championships – 3 / 4/ 5 May
Join us on the shore line and watch the next generation of surfers’ battle against seasoned pros. The proposed categories are:
Thundercat Racing National Championships – 10 / 11 May
Thundercat racing as grown significantly in popularity over the past few years and they now compete all over the world. In May the Thundercat teams will be back on the Watergate waves racing to the finish line!
Electric Beach Festival – 7 / 8 June
Last year saw the legendary Soul II Soul headline alongside Zion Train, Hot D’Jour and Swiss Lips. The sun was shining, spirits were high and 2014 looks to be even better. (Weather not guaranteed)
Veuve Clicquot Polo on the Beach – 5 / 6 July
Last May the sun shone and the surfers made way for polo ponies as more than 8,000 spectators made their way to Watergate Bay for the seventh year of Veuve Clicquot Polo on the Beach. So join us this year for a weekend of champagne, polo matches, stunt shows and much more.
The UKSRL Surfboats Summer Series – Saturday 19 July
Described as one of the most visually spectacular sporting disciplines in the world, the potential for thrills and spills is the basis of surf-rowing’s gaining popularity.
RAF St. Mawgan Beach Training – Saturday 14 June / Saturday 26 July
Join a highly motivated group of PTI on the beach for a challenging work out. The sessions are designed to cater for all fitness levels and its free! However, participants are encouraged to donate what they feel the session was worth and proceeds go to SSAFA and Surf Action.
Sandball Tournament – Saturday 2 August
Sandball, or Beach Handball. It’s a fast paced, small sided game that rewards showboating. It’s great fun so if you’re in Cornwall get a team together and give it a go!
BSUPA National Championships – 4 / 5 October
The sixth British Stand Up Paddle Association National Championships are coming to Watergate Bay.
