Becky Bettesworth Polo Poster

By now you’ll have seen the poster for Polo 2017 (if not, scroll to the bottom of the post to save your blushes).

We have Devon based artist Becky Bettesworth to thank for creating this awesome artwork. Using her famed seaside print style, Becky has captured our polo players in popping colour.

Read on to find out how you can get your hands on a poster of your own, as Becky talks us through her creative process.

Watergate Bay Poster

“When the Watergate Bay Hotel very kindly commissioned me to do the Polo on the Beach poster for 2017 I was thrilled. I have a real connection with Watergate Bay and the North Cornish coast and having done work with the hotel previously, I guess it was a natural progression.

“The dramatic setting at Watergate Bay makes a beautiful backdrop to start from and the action of the horses makes it a great subject to work with.”

“It was also a bit of a departure and a little different from my current range of seaside posters. I really hope with my finished image that I’ve captured the essence of the game of polo, the strength and the power of the horses and the stunning setting at Watergate Bay.

“The image is built up of hundreds and hundreds of shapes and layers, all one on top of the other.”

“It is a long process and a labour of love as each shape is drawn by hand. There are no short cuts, but this way has the end result of being hand drawn and painted. It’s the same effect as silk screening with block colour and bold clean lines, which I love. Creating a nostalgic and almost romantic feel from a timeless bygone era.

“I am absolutely thrilled with the end result and loved creating it.”
