Food and Drink
A selection of street food stalls, the beach bar and Champagne bar are open to everyone to purchase food and drink on the beach from midday on Friday and Saturday, and 11am on Sunday. We will stop selling bottles at 6pm on Saturday 20 May 2016, from 7pm onwards alcohol will only be purchased by the glass only. The Beach Hut restaurant will also be open on the day although booking is strongly advised for dinner – it will get busy! Call 01637 860877 to book.
There are lots of ways to get in touch with us if you have any more queries. You can ask questions on our Facebook page or on Twitter, or for information on the event you can email Alison or call her on 01637 861295.
Tickets to the beach party on Saturday 20 May will go on sale soon.
Watergate Bay is dog friendly all year round. You are welcome to bring your dogs to the event but we ask for them to remain on a lead at all times around the pitch, music arena and food area.
The Extreme Academy car park will be full of event vehicles and horses so we encourage you to park in the event car park which will be in a marked field just up the road from the hotel at a cost of £3.50. This is easily accessible from the road and is in the direction of Newquay. From there it is a 10 minute walk down a cliff path to access the beach.
If you have specific parking requirements please contact us on 01637 861295.
Watergate Bay has a gently sloping tarmac slipway onto the beach which provides the perfect viewing point for those with disabilities. If you need any assistance on the day, there will be stewards available to help.
There are some public toilets just across the road from the hotel and we will be providing temporary toilets in the Extreme Academy car park. There is a disabled toilet in The Beach Hut opposite the beach.
We love to see your photos of the event so feel free to snap away! Take a photo on your camera phone and post it on Instagram using hashtag #POTB17, or tweet it to us @PoloontheBeach.

Some of our stalls will be accepting credit/ debit cards on site but we recommend bringing cash with you. We will be offering cash back in the Extreme Academy on Friday 19 May (midday – 6.30pm), Saturday 20 May (midday – 6.30pm) and Sunday 21 May (11am – 4pm). There are no cash machines in Watergate Bay. The nearest cash machine is in Newquay.
Watergate Bay Hotel is now fully booked for polo weekend but there are lots of accommodation options available close by including hotels, self catering and camping. Take a look at our accommodation page.
What time does the event start and finish?
Polo on the Beach 2017 will start from midday each day when the food vendors and bar will open. The site will close at 11pm on Friday 19 May, 11pm on Saturday 20 May and 5pm on Sunday 21 May. Events in the arena started at 3.30pm on Friday and Saturday and 10am on Sunday 21 May.
What should I bring?
As always in Cornwall, check the weather! Even if it’s sunny it can get chilly in the evenings so warm clothes are advisable. There is no seating around the arena so you may like to bring your own camping chairs. Make yourselves at home!
What can’t I bring?
Please don’t bring glass onto the beach. BBQ’s are also not allowed in the event area.
What if it rains?
This is Cornwall, we can have four seasons all in one day! Polo on the Beach will still go ahead in the rain, just make sure you’re prepared with warm clothes and wellies as you will be outside. Only if we’re faced with a torrential storm or high winds, will we need to cancel the event for everybody’s safety – we’ve put in a request for sunshine and blue skies so let’s hope we’re lucky! Check on our website and twitter page for updates.
You can also buy official Joules match polo shirts online.
If there’s something we haven’t covered please email us or tweet us @PoloOnTheBeach
