Living with Covid

Government Covid restrictions have now been fully lifted and we’re all embracing easier, brighter days. But ensuring we continue to protect our guests and teams is still our top priority. This is what it means to us.

Striking the right balance

Health, safety and hygiene are at the heart of what we do and who we are. So for us, ‘living with Covid’ means business as usual: ever more stringent cleaning standards, using technology to minimise paperwork, taking cash out of the equation and making the most of the boundless space both inside and outside the hotel.

We know, however, that Covid still needs specific consideration – so here’s an update on how we’re approaching it, as of 28 February 2022:


We will continue to actively promote and support isolation for anyone who tests positive for Covid. This means that:
For our teams: on presentation of a registered positive test*, we’ll ask the person to isolate for the recommended five-day period. Normal sick pay rules will apply.

For our guests: on presentation of a registered positive test* within five days of arrival, we’ll put the deposit for your direct party (room sharers) on hold or rebook your stay for another date.

If you test positive while you’re here, we’ll put the value of any remaining nights for your direct party (room sharers) on hold for use on a future stay.

Health and hygiene

While the new guidelines do not now require us to specify Covid related elements within our risk assessments, we’ll continue using cleaning products that are proven to combat Covid 19.

We’ll continue providing land&water hand sanitiser in all public areas.

Masks are now optional – for both our teams and guests.

Contact tracing

We won’t now ask guests to “check in” using the NHS app.


We’ll keep a stock of Covid tests (subject to supply) for our teams and guests to use on request.

Staying proactive and aware

We await further public health guidance, which will replace the current “working safely guidance”. We have also already shaped plans and processes which can be quickly implemented in the event of a new Covid related escalation, and will continue to monitor the situation closely.

* A ‘registered test’ is one where a third party formally confirms the result. There are plenty of test providers, we have a positive experience of who charge £25 for 4 lateral flow test kits.


Online availability, interconnecting rooms and terms and conditions.

The availability shown online is live and up-to-date. If you can't find what you're looking for, it might be that the same room type isn't available, or that you need interconnecting rooms. Please email to discuss your options.

Minimum stay
We don't have a minimum stay except for four nights over Christmas and three nights over New Year.

How and when we take payment.

When we take payment
Payment is taken in full at the time of booking.

How we take payment
We are a cashless business and accept payment via Visa and Mastercard only.

Room rate
All prices are calculated per room, per night and based on two people sharing, except for family suites which are per room per night based on the maximum amount of people sharing the room.

Prices are advertised as a per room rate except for packages like Taste of the Bay which is a per person rate.

The Watergate Bay guest App
We have a dedicated guest App (available from the Google Play and Apple App stores) 

  • You can start building your itinerary from the moment you book your room, including dinner times, treatments, activities and to view menus.  
  • Logging in. Use your reservation number from your confirmation email and last name to log in. If you prefer, you can also use the email address and password, (select 'forgot password' to reset).

Checking in and out

  • Your room will be ready at 3pm, (or 3.30pm for the Village apartments). 
  • On departure, please check out of your room by 11am (or 11:30am for the Village apartments). 

Parking and electric chargers

  • Parking is free for hotel resident guests. Please make sure the front desk team have your registration number. Car parks include the hotel main entrance, outside the Coach House, on Tregurrian Hill and the public beach car park.
  • The Village family apartments have their own parking bays. You can also use the other hotel car parks provided the front desk team have your registration details.
  • We have two Tesla charge points available, one in the main hotel car park and one in the Village car park. We also have four “ChargePoint” chargers which are compatible with any vehicle (please download the ChargePoint app). If you would like to charge your vehicle during your stay, please contact us ahead of your visit so we can make sure the spaces are free.

Dog friendly

We welcome dogs with open arms, find out which rooms and hotel areas you can visit with your canine friend.

Some of our rooms are dog friendly and we have two dog-friendly restaurants, The Living Space and The Beach Hut. Watergate Bay beach is dog friendly all year round.

Children and families

Information on rates for children, our Kids' Zone areas, baby monitoring and more.

Rates for children
Additional occupants aged 3+ years are charged 25% of the double room rate. Family suites are charged per night up to the maximum stated occupancy.

Baby monitoring
We have a tablet and camera baby monitoring service available. The tablet works throughout the hotel and restaurants. 

Baby sitting
Baby sitting is available on request and is chargeable. 

Kids' Zone areas
We have a family games room, playrooms and an outdoor play area. For the latest information on the availability of our supervised sessions and our Kids' Zone areas, click here.

Travel cots can be provided and sleep children up to the age of three.

Air conditioning?
Some rooms have air conditioning

Baths and showers 
Every room is ensuite with a shower, but not all rooms have a bath. Some have a separate bath, some have a shower over bath and some are shower only. Email our reservations team for full details

Sea views
Not all our rooms have a sea view. We have three categories of room. House (no sea view), partial sea view rooms, which look over the car park down the coastline, and sea view rooms. Two family suites have partial sea views. The remaining are in the coach house at the back of the hotel. These rooms do not have sea views. View our rooms page for more information.

What is included in the rooms?
Each room has a robe, land&water products including shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and hand sanitiser, a fridge with water and milk, tea and coffee making facilities, a hairdryer, WIFI, flat-screen TV, iron & ironing board or steamer and Ruark Bluetooth radio speaker. We do not provide shower caps, body lotion sewing kits or slippers.

Swim Club

Information on our Swim Club facilities, treatments, hot tub and sauna.

Café bar
Ice cream on the pool deck? Sundowner cocktails in the ocean room? Order off the cafe bar menu, just scan QR codes found throughout Swim Club's spaces.

Treatments are available to book using the mobile app, or online. Open to residents and non-residents.

The pool

The pool is 25m long with a shallow area for younger children and families. Our Swim Club page has more information on our facilities.

Adult-only swim times
Adult only sessions run from 7am - 9am and 6pm - 9pm. 

Hot tub and sauna
We have a hot tub and sauna overlooking the Bay, we ask that you limit your session to 20 minutes if people are waiting. 

Cardio room/gym
In our cardio room, you’ll find a Concept2 rowing machine, SkiERG Matrix hybrid cross trainers, running machines and fitness bikes. We also have free weights and yoga mats.  

Ocean room
The ocean room has uninterrupted views of the beach, surf and bay. It's available for everybody to use.

Shop at Watergate Bay
There is a small beach shop, but not a grocery store. 

Cash machine
The nearest cash machine is in Newquay. 

Nearest town
Newquay is a ten-minute drive away

Nearest train station?
Newquay branch line is a ten-minute drive. Bodmin Parkway on the mainline is a thirty-minute drive.

Newquay airport is a ten-minute drive from Watergate Bay Hotel. 

Beach lifeguards
During Easter holidays and October half term, and from May until September. 

Dog friendly beach
Watergate Bay beach is dog friendly all year round.

Food and drink

The Beach Hut, The Living Space and Zacry's are part of Watergate Bay hotel. Restaurant Emily Scott is an independent restaurant, located on the sea wall.

Are the restaurant's dog friendly?
The Living Space and The Beach Hut are dog friendly.

Are you family-friendly?
Yes, our restaurants are all family-friendly. The Living Space and The Beach Hut have children's menus available.

When dining with children in Zacry's, dishes can be simplified and portion sizes adapted, or children can order off the menu under the 'Simple and Classic' section.

Early supper is served in Zacry's from 4.45-5.15pm as a served buffet. Bookings can be made on the guest App. 

Do you need to book?
We advise booking, you can book here. 
The Living Space does not take bookings for lunch.

Opening times
The Living Space is open for lunch between 12-3pm and dinner from 5-9pm.
Zacry's is open from 5pm for early supper and from 6pm for dinner.

Room service
Room service from The Living Space can be ordered through our front desk team and is available from 12-3pm, and from 5-9pm.

Afternoon tea
While we don't serve afternoon tea, we do serve coffee, cake and cream tea in The Beach Hut and The Living Space. 

The Beach Hut

The Beach Hut restaurant is located on the beach and is open to everyone.
